In my mid twenties I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune and inflammatory disease, which means that my immune system was attacking the healthy cells in my body by mistake, causing inflammation (painful swelling) in the affected parts of my body. RA mainly attacks the joints, usually many joints at once. At the time I didn’t know that the state of my gut health had a direct impact on the inflammation occurring in my body. It wasn’t until a few years later that I learned about the GAPS Protocol while listening to a podcast. I felt instant relief knowing that there was a dietary approach to healing from RA. I discovered how removing inflammatory foods for a specific period of time, while introducing nutrient dense gut healing foods, can restore the balance of the gut microbiome. By making some dietary changes, I was able to restore the integrity of my gut health, which resulted in calming the inflammation and recovering from RA. Looking back I realized that I had unknowingly suffered from other conditions associated with poor gut health like iron deficiency anemia, cystic acne, hormonal imbalances, migraines and allergies. Today, I am free from all the symptoms associated with these conditions, and feel better than I ever have. Understanding how diet and nutrition affects my health empowers me to always make the best choices when it comes to my overall wellbeing. My passion is education and helping others achieve great health.
